Multiple Intelligence

February 29, 2008 · Leave a Comment

This is the 3rd PEARLS session. The PEA which I had done has benefited me a lot as I can see how my “significant others” in my life see me. I got to see my weak and my strong points as perceived by others clearly now. I reflected on these comments, as only I know why did I choose to behave in this manner which lead to how the others perceive me, this exercise surprised me as I realised that I do not have reasons for behaving in a certain manner sometimes; and that on some occasion I have been acting against my beliefs as well. (See cognitive dissonance.)

Our first exercise for today is Howard Gardner multiple intelligence. I scored:

I had confidence in my physical and visual abilities which is reflected in this diagram, I had always enjoyed nature and like organising myself which probably gave me pretty decent scores for my naturalistic and intrapersonal faculties, therefore i thought it was quite accurate. elaboration’s here

Anyways, I thought this test had limited effectiveness as there are many subjective questions. Therefore, a self confident person could max out this scale which isn’t necessarily true.

Next, Richard elaborated on various intellectual faculties, giving examples on each one. The lesson today was self exploration, many people found out interesting thing about themselves which led to chattering, this kind of set the schedule today but it was a good lesson.

We didn’t managed to create our vision today but it can be done more effectively as a homework.

Wacom tablets

February 23, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I am quite excited as I have managed to get a new job as a part-time promoter for Wacom tablets at the upcoming IT’08 from 6th to 9th of march. Besides getting relatively better pay,I can promote this range of tablets by doing what I do best, DRAWING!

If I manage to learn how to use this beauty well enough, I might be able to do freelance designing for games and advertisement posters in future! that would be a nice source of income.

Meanwhile,  I will have to do my homework and memorise the specs of their various products, namely:

Intuos:3-

Bamboo: fun-

Clintiq 12WX & 21.3 UXGA-

oh, it seems that they provide free training if you purchase one of their products

i will blog more on it after i have done my research tomorrow :)

Beginning with an end in mind

I did my Personal Evaluation Assessment for session I and I gained some insight on my character. I sat down and talked to my sister, aunty and close friend of mine, the “significant other” in my life. A significant other is possibly the closest to you, know your strengths and weaknesses very well and knows how you utilise your time, efforts and money. They managed to tell me things I know about myself and my blind spots, and most importantly, gave me words of wisdom that will go a long way.

PEARLS M2S1 190208. Personal mastery II

Today’s session was about developing a personal vision though a deeper realisation about me and developing a personal SWOT. (Reminded me of Jack Sim witty interpretation of SWOT: strength, excuses, opportunities and… more excuses!)

Through last week exercise, I had a greater understanding of myself- my weaknesses and strengths. Richard let us attempt another exercise this week: past examination, to examine if there were any incidents in the past with left a negative impact on us and challenge us to see it in a positive way. Thought the exercise I then realised so many traits and skills I currently possess was in fact affected by my past encounters. In that case if I could challenge myself and stay positive daily, it would make me very successful in future.

Richard shared with us the desires of people who are nearing death (similar to a certain BBC4 radio programme) which altered his life philosophy. Richard told us his life philosophy, emphasising on money as a means to achieve our goals but never an end and living a life of service to others, together with our loved ones. He also told us about research results showing how Harvard grads that lived life according to their passion turned out better than those who worked solely for money.

I already had a personal vision for success so such opportunity helped me to iron out the more itty-gritty details. I will be a full-time trader/investor and achieve 5mill before I reach 40, my initial capital will be derived from working in the property market as a real estate agent which I will begin this June(‘08). I would also love to invest in business ideas if the opportunity presents itself. Through sustainable value investing, I will achieve financial freedom so as to spend more time with my love one, travelling and living for my life’s passion.

PEARLS M2S1 120208. Personal mastery I

Just had my pearls session, a self development progamme initiate by SIM, few days back. I find personal mastery to be a very sensitive and contemplative issue; it gets you to explore yourself to a deeper level. Many people often do that unconsciously but it is the master who can consciously organise their emotions and align their goals.

After the session, I orientated Richard through face book. He was very interested about it as it could open up a whole new platform for his company’s products. He was pretty grateful about this and picked up my tab after our dinner. Lastly, both of us went to attend the SIP talk with VIP speakers Jack Sim and Kenny Low.

It was an open table discussion and the mc got both speaker start on their passion and personal life story. Jack achieved considerable success in his 15mil business and decided to go into something more meaningful. He managed to set up the World Toilet Organization in Singapore and a few more across the globe. Firm who donated in WTO will get recognition; the funds will be channeled to provide better sanitary facilities to the society. Despite all the recognition accorded to him, he was a very down to earth man and did not let fame get to his head.

Kenny had a pretty interesting story himself. After switching courses from accounting to business in the local uni, he only realized what he wanted when he graduated; to help others. One thing he realized was that ‘O’ level private candidates tend to have very high failure rate as private schools were not well-equipped in the earlier days. With his economics background, he realized that private schools had to provide better quality education in order to prevent this situation. So he set out and opened a private school for the private candidates, this triggered a huge change in the industry and led to improvement in private schools’ quality in order to compete with his school. Another more interesting thing was that the mission of the school he set up can only be completed when his school is forced to close down, due to overwhelming competition(from higher service quality provided by the private school); the irony~!

Jack and Kenny put their points across to the participants succintly, that their heart and passion, rather than the capital should be their primary requirements if they are to set out on such projects or businesses.  I will be anticipating for their next project, dark museum, opening. This project had worked wonders across Europe. The museum is in a dark building, whereby the public will be led through the exhibition by a visually handicapped “guide”.
